After earning her diploma in composition at the Academy of Music in Ljubljana (with prof. Dane Skerl), Urska Pompe continued her studies at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest (composition, chamber music, solfege) and in Basel, Switzerland (composition with Roland Moser).
During her post-graduate studies she supplemented her knowledge by participating in numerous international masterclasses and meetings, working with acknowledged composers and instrumentalists played an important role in the ongoing maturation of her creativity; composers: Brian Ferneyhough, James Dillon (Royaumont), Gyorgy Kurtag, H. Lachenmann, Ivan Fedele, F. B. Mache (Avignon), S. Gubaidulina (Salzburg); piano: Pierre-Laurent Aimard; chamber music: Perenyi Miklos, Gulyas Marta.
Her works have earned her much recognition, including the Preseren Student Award for her string quartet Three Impressions, and the first and only prize in the International Alpe Adria Giovani composition competition in Triest for her Duo for flute and bassoon. Upon her return to Slovenia she spent some time working as professor of piano and taught solfege and harmony. She is currently assistant professor of solfege at the Ljubljana Academy of Music.
